Nagpur : In a momentous meeting held in Delhi on February 2, 2024, Senior National Leader Sharad Pawar engaged in positive discussions with Union Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda concerning the effective implementation of the Forest Rights Act and Collective Forest Rights. This strategic dialogue addressed the challenges faced by Gram Sabhas in Maharashtra and across the nation, grappling with the complexities of Community Rights and the Community Forest Rights process.
The deliberations shed light on the hardships encountered by Gram Sabhas, emphasizing the need for a more streamlined implementation process. Union Minister Arjun Munda, acknowledging the gravity of the situation, assured prompt and appropriate action to address these concerns.
Sharad Pawar, underscoring his commitment to fostering cooperation in the implementation of collective forest rights, expressed gratitude to the Union Minister. He highlighted the transformative impact that proper implementation of Collective Forest Rights in Maharashtra could have, rectifying historical injustices and providing millions of tribals and Vanwasis with their rightful claims. This, he asserted, would not only address the tribals’ challenges but also contribute significantly to their economic upliftment.
The meeting witnessed the participation of key figures dedicated to tribal welfare, including Dilip Gode of Vidarbha Livelihood Forum and Tribal Development Center, Adv. Purnima Upadhyay, Dr. Kishore Moghe, Vibhu Nair (Secretary, Tribal Affairs Department), Mrs. R. Jaya (Joint Secretary, Tribal Affairs), and representatives from the Rural Development Department, Government of India.
