Nagpur: BCCI chief Shashank Manohar on Thursday wrote to PCB chief Shahryar Khan and apologised for cancelling the proposed meeting over resumption of India-Pakistan bilateral cricket ties.

The much-anticipated talks between Manohar and his Pakistan counterpart Shahryar Khan were called off last week after Shiv Sena activists stormed the Indian Cricket Board headquarters in Mumbai protesting against bilateral series between the two countries.

The noisy protests by over a hundred slogan shouting members carrying placards at the Board office, during which Manohar was ghearoed, forced the cancellation of the talks.

Shouting slogans against Pakistan and the PCB chairman, the Sena workers confronted Manohar, asking him not to have any ties with the neighbouring country, which they said sponsors terrorism.

Manohar had invited Khan for talks on the much-anticipated cricket series scheduled in December.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has also told PCB that it will seek government permission on whether December’s scheduled series between the two countries can proceed as planned.

The PCB on Thursday said that its chairman Khan received a letter from Manohar, saying it would approach the Indian government to get “definitive guidance” on the series in the United Arab Emirates.

Last year, the two countries signed an agreement to play six series in between 2015-2023, with Pakistan as nominal hosts four times.
