Shinde-Fadnavis Govt is committed to OBC reservation: Bawankule

Nagpur: BJP State General Secretary and MLC Chandrashekhar Bawankule has claimed that OBC reservation will be decided before the civic polls in the state. The government has postponed the election of some municipal councils. The government led by Shinde and Fadnavis is serious about this issue from day one.

“Former Ministers Bhujbal and Vijay Wadettiwar are making political statements only. The OBC reservation issue was kept on hold during the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, so leaders like Bhujbal, Wadettiwar should remain silent on this subject,” Bawankule stated.

Talking to media persons, Bawankule said that there is a hearing in the Supreme Court on July 19. The state government will take a worthy stand regarding OBC reservation. OBC reservation will be available in the next elections. The Aghadi government had not even given Rs 435 crore for the compilation of imperial data of OBCs. The Secretary did not take the meeting of the Commission, Bawankule claimed.

“It was said in the unwritten order that nothing should be done in this regard. The Shinde-Fadnavis Government placed the report in the Supreme Court the very next day. 27 percent reservation has been shown for OBC,” the BJP leader asserted.

Bawankule also took notice of Sena MP Sanjay Raut’s criticism of the Shinde-Fadnavis government. “Raut is so upset that he had to visit Nagpur to express his views. The Maha Vikas Aghadi Government destroyed Maharashtra for political gains. There will be no room for MP Raut to show his face in the next two and a half years. The Shinde-Fadnavis Government will do so much work,” he said.

Bawankule pointed out that the issue of Maratha reservation is different. The Constitution has 50 percent reservation for SC, ST and OBC together. If Maratha reservation is to be given, it will go above 50 percent. Maratha reservation cannot come in OBC reservation. OBCs will get 40 percent, 35 percent, 27 percent reservation in some places, he said.
