SNDL conducts anti-theft vigilance drive to crack down power theft

SNDL's drive against power pilferers
Nagpur: In the first week of July 2017, SND Limited started its campaign against the widespread power theft in the Distribution Franchise area of Nagpur. During this action, the employees of the distribution franchisee were beaten and wrong allegations were made on them. But due to strict surveillance by the police officials during the whole operation, all the allegations were proved wrong. During this time, SNDL filed an FIR against several such anti-social elements who tried to hide their mistake by assaulting the staff by gathering the mob. A second phase of the drive was also conducted recently.

According to the SNDL press release, 113 cases were registered during the last one month, in which about Rs. Assessment of 80 lakhs was withdrawn. In most of these cases, there is a case of remoting the remote kit, straight tapping (meter bypass) or reclamation of disconnected connections in an illegal manner. In most of these cases, people involved in the theft of electricity, accepted their mistakes and paid the assessment bills. The cases where payment was not made have been sent for recovery under the further legal process.

The most interesting aspect of all these cases was that many consumers involved in theft of electricity have also highlighted the names of those people who provided them the ‘convenience’ of electricity theft in the above manner by taking money from them. SNDL has given names of such people to police list by making a list. Working on this kind of power without permission on the electrical system is not only illegal, but also deadly.
