Nagpur.: In a fresh twist to the Solar Industries blast in Nagpur that reportedly claimed 9 lives, Congress MLC Abhijeet Wanjarri has raised questions on the Maharashtra Government’s intent alleging that the government is trying to save the company from the heat as the company has given donation to ‘someone.’

The case came up for discussion again in legislative council on Wednesday, when Wanjarri made these remarks. He said, “Filing a case should not be limited to IPC section 304A (causing death by negligence), as it’s a bailable offence. Is there no value to the lives of those who died there?” said Wanjarri. He questioned whether the government will take a tough stance saying, “My question is whether they are trying to save someone because a donation was given by the company to somebody.”

State labour minister Suresh Khade had earlier read out a statement which mentioned that investigations are going on in the incident.
After Wanjarri’s query, deputy chairperson of the council Neelam Gorhe said while she’s allowing question and answers in a discussion under the category of ‘statement’, minister Khade can’t be expected to answer as to what sections the police will apply. “It’s a question which comes under home minister’s jurisdiction,” said Gorhe. She also added that if Wanjarri provides details on the ‘donation’ claim, an inquiry can be initiated.

BJP MLC Pravin Datke countered Wanjarri saying, “The labour department is already investigating the facilities at the factory and what exactly happened. So just because the blast happened at a factory in Nagpur, one should not make claims about donations being given to someone. Then, even I have some claims to make.”

Datke added, “If the company is guilty, let them face the heat. But it is not right to make allegations about donations being given.”

State labour minister Suresh Khade informed the legislative council on Wednesday that Solar Industries has announced compensation of Rs 20 lakh to next of kin of those who died in the blast at its factory, apart from the Rs 5 lakh amount already announced by the state government. The minister added that the company management has agreed to provide a job to one member of the deceased’s family.

Leader of opposition Ambadas Danve said facilities in such explosive factories must be checked.
