Nagpur: Acting on secret inputs, Sonegaon police on Thursday raided a flat in New Manish Nagar and arrested two men who were found betting on IPL match being played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions. The raiding cops have also seized gambling material including TV set, mobile phones etc worth Rs 60,000 from the arrested duo.
The Sonegaon Assistant Police Inspector N D Pagar received a tip off that some persons were busy in betting over an IPL match from Ketki Apartment, New Manish Nagar. Acting swiftly, the API Pagar informed about the inputs to Senior PI Sanjay Pande. The PI Pande formed a team comprising himself, API Pagar, constable Subhash Chauhan, Sepoys Manish Kadve, Devkumar Sonkusre, Himanshu Thakur and two witnesses. The team rushed to the spot around 6.20 pm and knocked the door of the Flat No 101 of the first floor of Ketki Apartment. However, when the cops found no one is opening the door, they forcibly opened the door and gained entry into the flat. The raiding cops found two accused namely Pranay Prakash Channe (26), resident of 338, New Nandanvan, and Manoj Bhayyaji Raut (33) of Bidipeth accepting bets on the IPL match being played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Gujarat Lions. The cops immediately rounded up the accused duo and also seized a LG TV, a Dell laptop, a Set Top Box, 4-5 mobile phone and other gambling material collectively worth Rs 60,000.
The two accused have been booked under Sections 4, 5 of Maharashtra Gambling Act and placed under arrest.
The action was carried out under the guidance of DCP Deepali Masirkar and ACP Rajratan Bansod.
