Nagpur: The setting in harsh summer notwithstanding, the Sonegaon Lake, which used to go dry every year, is depicting a different picture this year. The water level is soothing to the eyes of local residents. The water level at the lake in the beginning of April could be termed good and is the result of concerted efforts put in by Ruling Party Leader in NMC Sandeep Joshi.
Joshi had carried out a drive last year to desilt the Sonegaon Lake in May to mark birthday of Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport. The residents of nearby areas, environmentalists and BJP workers had joined hands to rid the lake of silt. Also, they had dug four pits of 1,000 sq ft to increase water storage of the lake. Now, the lake has ample water in March.
“We will conduct the drive every year to clean the lake. Also, NMC will beautify the premises with the help of local residents,” said Joshi. State Government has provided Rs 18 crore for beautification of the lake. NMC will create two huge gardens near the lake and also a walking track for morning walkers. This will enhance beauty of the lake,” Joshi said.
