Nagpur: Fed up with her brother’s drinking habits, a young woman orchestrated his murder by hiring her lover for Rs 10,000. The assailants carried out the plan by killing her brother and dumping his body in Khindsi Lake, Ramtek, on April 17. Following discovery of the body, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) launched an investigation which led to identification of the culprits.
The deceased is identified as Rajat Kailas Ughade (26), a resident of Ashirwad Nagar, Hudkeshwar. The police arrested Rajat’s mother Deepali Kailas Ughade (54), and sister Abha Ughade (28), along with her boyfriend, Atul Raju Bhamode (31) of Tandapeth, and Pappu Shyamalal Burde (28) of Kalamna.
According to the police, Abha, divorced, was residing with her mother Deepali and brother Rajat. Abha endured Rajat’s alcohol-fuelled violence at home for a long time. Fed up with his behaviour, on April 14, Abha met Atul at the Swami Narayan Temple in Wathoda and informed him about Rajat’s behaviour. She sought Atul’s help to eliminate Rajat and offered money for the task. Atul enlisted his friend Pappu in the plot.
On April 16, following another episode of abuse, Abha contacted Atul via mobile phone and again informed him about the chaos created by Rajat. Atul and Pappu devised a plan and decided to lure Rajat out under the pretext of drinking. They visited the Ughade family’s house, where Abha handed Pappu Rs 5,000 for the task. Atul and Pappu intoxicated Rajat in Nagpur and later transported him to Ramtek on a motorcycle. Atul informed Abha that Rajat had consumed excessive liquor and suggested fracturing his limbs. However, Abha insisted on Rajat’s immediate elimination. As a result, Atul and Pappu strangled Rajat and disposed of his body in Khindsi Lake before returning to Nagpur.
Abha rewarded Atul with an additional Rs 5,000 for killing her brother. Meanwhile, locals discovered Rajat’s body in Khindsi Lake on the morning of April 17.The body underwent post-mortem examination, and a murder case was registered. Abha and her mother, Deepali, visited Kotwali police station and filed a missing complaint. Police interrogated the mother-daughter duo and grew suspicious due to inconsistencies in their statements. After sustained questioning, Abha confessed to the murder which led to the arrest of Atul and Pappu.
