Special cells in power companies to pursue development works: Bawankule

A proposal to reduce electricity rates in Vidarbha and Marathwada to be put before the State Cabinet on coming Tuesday

Nagpur/Mumbai: In a significant move, the State Government has decided to set up a special cell each in Mahagenco, Mahavitaran (MSEDCL) and Mahatransco to pursue the development works being carried out by the three companies and to be undertaken in future. This was announced by Energy Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule at a meeting held to review the ongoing power projects. All the senior officials of the three companies attended the meeting which was held at Mantralaya in Mumbai on Thursday.

The special cells are being established to ensure coordination between the three power companies and State Government over development works and completing them within the stipulated period. Each cell will comprise two Chief Engineers and three other officials.

The Energy Minister further said that a proposal to reduce electricity rates in Vidarbha and Marathwada will be put before the State Cabinet on coming Tuesday. Similarly, the regions are cotton producing regions, a proposal on applying unified power rates to cotton processing units on the lines of powerloom units will also be put up before the Cabinet. “The State Government has accepted the report of Anupkumar Committee over reduction in power rates to industries as well. An appropriate decision will be taken on the report,” Bawankule said.
