The Pr. Chief Commissioner of Income tax, Nagpur Region which exercises territorial jurisdiction over all the Districts in Vidarbha has stepped up the its efforts for collection of tax demand from major taxpayers, since the joining of new Principal Chief Commissioner of Income tax, Nagpur, Smt. Asha Agarwal.
The Income tax Department is focusing on the recovery of demand created in the previous financial years, advance tax payment and self assessment tax payments. In an unprecedented move to recover the income tax dues of preceding years, the Income tax Department, Nagpur has auctioned more than 18 properties belonging to tax defaulters worth several crores of rupees. Also, Income tax Department, Nagpur has auctioned seized jewellery of lakhs of rupees and sent a strong message to those tax defaulters who are not coming forth to pay their legitimate tax dues. These unprecedented steps of auctioning of immovable/movable properties were never undertaken in the past by the Income tax Department at Nagpur. Many more auctions are scheduled in near future.

Similarly, the Income tax Department, Nagpur has also identified the cases wherein the taxpayers have not paid the outstanding tax, concealed the particulars of income or helped or abetted the tax defaulters to evade the taxes. Income tax Department, Nagpur has launched more than 150 prosecutions in all such cases and many more cases for prosecution have been identified.
