Sporting boost: Fadnavis Govt to implement ‘Khelo India’ programme in state

State to acquire INS Viraat and convert it into a maritime museum

Nagpur: Giving a boost to sports in the state, the Fadnavis Government has decided to implement Central Government’s ‘Khelo India-National Programme for Development of Sports’ from 2018-19. In another significant move, the State Government has decided to acquire the decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Viraat and convert it into a maritime museum.

The Khelo India programme has been introduced to revive the sports culture in India at the grass-roots level by building a strong framework for all sports played in our country and establish India as a great sporting nation.

The decisions were taken in the Cabinet Meeting held in Mumbai on Thursday. Total eight decisions were taken including:

·Implementation of Central Government’s ‘Khelo India-National Programme for Development of Sports’ from 2018-19 in state.

· Policy fixed for sports grounds on government lands, renewal of lease of gymnasiums.

· Acquire the decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Viraat and convert it into a maritime museum.

·Ordinance to be issued for vesting powers with State Government for providing GST grants to municipal corporations in certain conditions.

·Construction of Government Medical, Dental, Ayurvedic colleges now to be undertaken through Central Government’s Public Sector Undertaking companies. The constructions include having budget provisions of Rs 25 crore or above.

·Leasing of 8.80 hectare Government land at nominal rate for setting up Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Mauza Pachgaon, Taluka Mohadi, Bhandara district.
