Nagpur: Pushing aside the setback suffered in initial stages of implementation, Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) has now floated tenders worth Rs. 165 crore for rolling out civic facilities in Smart City area.
The Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) of Central and State Government plus Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has now divided the work in six packets to ensure that multiple agencies are roped in. The tenders are for construction of new roads, bridges in Pardi, Punapur, Bharatwada and Bhandewadi areas of East Nagpur. Earlier, the Board of Directors of Smart City terminated the contract awarded to M/s Shapoorji Pallonji Company Pvt. as the company failed to speed up the work.
The Board cancelled the contract for development work issued to the company. Chinmay Gotmare, Chief Executive Officer, Smart City, said the development works would be allocated through the TENDERSURE method. The Smart City project is being rolled out in 1,730 acres of the four localities on the fringes of the city. Shapoorji’s company could complete only 12 kms road work. Now taking cue from problems faced by the giant company, Smart City bosses have divided the pending works into six parts. The basic idea is to rope in local contractors so that construction work can be speeded-up.
In the new tender process, the first package is of Rs 62.48 crore, the second package of Rs 33.38 crore, the third package of Rs 14.75 crore, fourth package of Rs 21.77 crore, fifth package of Rs 22.23 crore and sixth package of Rs. 10.44 crore has been determined. The fifth package is for construction of bridges and the sixth package has been taken out for redundant work of water tanks.
The tender process is likely to be completed by December 15, said Gotmare. He said that considering the geographical situation there, all the roads are going to be made of cement.
