Nagpur: The Maharashtra Government on Wednesday assured the State Assembly that it would fund the proposed Railway Over Bridge (ROB) that would replace the existing British era structure constructed in 1927 in Ajni, which is in a highly dilapidated condition. While replying to a query by MLA Mohan Mate during the Question Hour, Industries Minister Uday Samant said the government had already floated a tender of Rs 188.72 crore.
“The construction work of the new ROB in Ajni will not be affected due to shortage of funds as the State Government has decided to provide the fund for construction of the RoB”, said Samant on behalf of the Chief Minister. Samant made this statement in the State Legislative Assembly while replying to the questions raised by MLAs Mohan Mate, Vikas Thakre, and Dr Nitin Raut during the Question Hour.
“The total estimated cost of the project is Rs 332 crore of which the State Government has already sanctioned Rs 188.72 crore. The tender process also has been initiated. Though the fund is yet to be received, the project is not going to be stalled due to financial crunch,” said Samant in the Lower House. BJP MLA Mohan Mate had raised the issue in Question Hour. Seeking a status report, he asked, when will the new bridge be completed as the current British-era bridge is in a dangerous condition?
In reply, Samant said “Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur conducted the structural audit of the existing bridge in which it advised to stop traffic movement over the bridge. Considering the advice, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) restricted the movement of heavy vehicles from this bridge.”
The project of the new bridge has been given to Maharashtra Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (MRIDC). The State Government is taking the matter seriously and soon the fund will be released and the project will start, said the minister.
Earlier, there was some issue created between Central Railways and NMC regarding the construction of the bridge. However, it is now sorted out and the State Government will provide the whole fund for this project, Samant stated.
