Nagpur: In a significant decision, the State Government has raised the limit of Mahatma Phule Jana Arogya Yojana (MPJAY) to Rs 5 lakh per family from Rs 1.5 lakh. The decision was taken in a recent Cabinet meeting. The development will help more poor and needy people to avail healthcare facilities, which are otherwise not affordable for them.

The facilities will be available in 43 hospitals, including 9 government and 34 private ones. The 9 government hospitals are: Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH), Daga Hospital, Super Speciality Hospital, Regional Mental Hospital, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Government Ayurvedic Hospital and three hospitals from the rural sector.

As per earlier scheme, only people who possessed Orange Card, Yellow Card, or Path Antyodaya Card could benefit from the scheme. Now, the State Government has increased its ambit. Under the new rules, students and women from Ashramshala, orphanages, farmers’ families, registered construction workers and their families too have been included in the scheme.

The hospitals where people can avail benefits in rural part of Nagpur include Shalinitai Meghe Hospital and Research Institute, Wanadongri; Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Digdoh; St Joseph Hospital, Fetri; Prabhat Hospital, Kamptee; City Hospital, Kamptee; Maya Hospital, Butibori; Yogiraj Hospital, Ramtek; Shreyas Patil Hospital, Saoner and others.

Fanindra Chandra, Senior Divisional Manager with MPJAY said, “Large number of families are availing the benefits of the health schemes being run by the Government. People don’t have to put in much effort. If they face any problem in hospitals, the Aarogya Mitra will help them in the hospital itself. Since a Government Resolution (GR) has not been issued yet, people are not clear certain things are unclear as to how the people without any card would avail benefits? Whether people have to pay some primary premium, etc. Once GR comes, the picture will become more clear.”

How to avail benefits?
There are two schemes run in the hospitals — one is MPJAY and Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojna or Ayushman Bharat. Both schemes are being run in Maharashtra. It is applicable for 30 major surgeries and 996 procedures. The patients should produce an Orange card, Yellow Card, or White Card to get admitted. The administrative procedure is expected to be done by the hospital.
