Nagpur: The first merit list for Std XI Common Admission Process (CAP) will be declared on July 10, according to the revised schedule declared by education department on Friday evening.
The schedule was rejigged because of form submission date being extended till June 29. According to CAP authorities, total 40,081 students have registered for approximately 53,000 seats.
While these statistics paint a sorry picture of the demand-supply situation in colleges, the actual situation may not really be that bad. The 53,000-odd seats are for all streams and languages but the real competition is for English medium Science seats. There are 22,940 seats under Science stream and the top colleges are likely to see strong competition in terms of higher cut-offs.
This year has already witnessed incredibly high scores in both CBSE and state board, which will mean that candidates shall have a tough time trying to secure a seat.
Bifocal seats are the actual ones that witness the toughest fight and ultimately spike up the cut off percentages. With Bifocal seats being considerably less than General Science seats in colleges, the ones who do not make the cut try their luck at other institutes. However, online CAP has put an end to the ‘fishing’ around for seats at multiple colleges, as the rules stipulate that students who are unable to secure a Bifocal seat will have to ultimately settle for a General Science seat at the same college.
Students can change their preference in the next round but that maybe too late as all top college seats are gone in the first round itself.
