The students of the Explorers House, Grade 8, organized a special assembly on August 29th to commemorate National Sports Day in India. This day also marks the birth anniversary of the legendary Indian hockey player, Major Dhyanchand. National Sports Day, first celebrated in 2012, aims to promote the importance of sports and physical activity in daily life.
The event highlighted the values that sports bring, such as discipline, perseverance, sportsmanship, and teamwork, while encouraging the public to integrate sports into their lives for better fitness and health.
During the assembly, students presented a skit in which they portrayed various sports personalities and discussed the significance of sports. The participants included Miss Toshita Meharkar, Miss Navya Sarode, Miss Twisha Pushty, Mast. Shreyansh Gupta, Mast. Tulya Mohane, Miss Priyanka Avhad, Mast. Parth Daf, Miss Swara Sheladia, and Miss Arthsha Wagde.
An online event was also held in honor of the occasion, featuring renowned Indian chess player and international chess master, Mr. Anup Deshmukh, as the Chief Guest. Mr. Deshmukh addressed the students, sharing his journey as a sportsperson. He recounted the challenges he faced in his early years, including being punished for missing school to participate in tournaments—even after defeating chess grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand. He emphasized that today’s youth have greater opportunities, thanks to improved facilities, infrastructure, and support from schools, colleges, and even corporate employers.
The online program was coordinated by Sports Mentor Mr. Dhiraj Kadao.
