Suretech Hospital in Dhantoli evacuated after smoke alert in MRI unit

Nagpur: Panic gripped Suretech Hospital in Dhantoli, Nagpur, after a short circuit in the MRI machine late on Wednesday night caused a lot of smoke, leading to a precautionary shutdown of the hospital’s power supply, and evacuation of some patients to other hospitals, media reports said.

Reports said infants and mothers present in the hospital were shifted to other hospitals for safety.

Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Fire Department, which sent two fire tenders, said the MRI section of Suretech Hospital, situated in the basement, experienced a sudden short circuit at night. This resulted in thick smoke emanating from the machine, which prompted the power cut.

Newborns and their mothers, who were admitted at the time, were relocated to other hospitals in the city as a precaution. The incident led to a fearful atmosphere in the hospital. The cause of the short circuit is yet to be ascertained. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot.
