In a groundbreaking development at Datta Meghe Medical College, Nagpur, the medical community recently bore witness to a pioneering event – the inaugural Cadaveric Workshop on Brain and Spine Endoscopic Surgery. The mastermind behind this milestone was none other than Dr. Paresh Korde, Head of Neurosurgery Division at DMMC & SMHRC, who also served as the organizing secretary for the event. The primary objective of this workshop was to elevate the skillsets of neurosurgeons hailing from various corners of India.
This workshop, exclusively dedicated to neuroendoscopy, marked a historic first for Nagpur, signifying a significant leap in the teaching of neurosurgery in Central India. The presence and mentorship of Dr. Chandrashekhar Deopujari (HOD, Bombay Hospital, Mumbai) and Dr. S. M. Rohidas (Senior Neurosurgeon, Kolhapur) played pivotal roles in making this event a success, adding an esteemed touch to the proceedings. Dr.Korde, expressing his optimism, emphasized that the workshop heralds a paradigm shift in neurosurgery education in the region.
Anticipating a national platform for DMMC and Nagpur as a result of this event, Dr. Paresh Korde credited its success to the visionary leadership of Shri DattajiMeghe being diligently executed by Shri SagarjiMeghe. He also acknowledged the unwavering support from DMIHER Vice Chancellor Dr.Lalitbhushan Waghmare, DMIHER Off Campus Director Dr. Anup Marar, DMMC Dean Dr.UjwalGajbe, DMMC Vice Dean Dr.Brijraj Singh and all the office bearers of DMIHER.
Dr.AashayKekatpure- Professor Incharge-DMMC Cadaveric Workshop added that the workshop garnered participants not only from Nagpur but also drew neurosurgeons from cities such as Gondia, Chandrapur, Amravati, Jalna, Ahmednagar, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, and Trichy. The fact that the limited 15 seats for the workshop quickly filled up is a testament to the keen interest among young medical professionals in this specialized educational model.
Dr. Paresh Korde took the opportunity to shed light on the comprehensive neurosurgical services offered at the DMMC & SMHRC Neurosurgery department. These services cover a wide spectrum, including trauma, tumors, spinal issues, and brain-related ailments. Equipped with cutting-edge technology such as operating microscopes, high-speed neurodrills, and advanced ICU facilities, the department achieved a remarkable milestone – a Century of successful surgeries within just 6-7 months.
The institute’s motto, “Quality and Affordable Healthcare,” was a focal point in Dr.Korde’s remarks. He underscored the positive impact this philosophy has had on patients, with people from beyond Nagpur seeking treatment. This affirms the institute’s commitment to providing accessible and high-quality healthcare.
