Nagpur: An alert wireless operator at Nagpur Police’s Control Room rescued a minor girl who was allegedly kidnapped by a young man from Kalamna area on Wednesday evening. After receiving a wireless message, a team of Sakkardara Police rushed to the spot and took the accused, Surendra Ramkrishna Paraye, a resident of Ayodhya Nagar, into custody and handed him over to their Kalamna counterparts for further investigation.
The 10-year-old girl was allegedly kidnapped by Surendra from the legal custody of her parents around 6 pm on Wednesday. Surendra took her away on a Honda Activa. Her parents approached Kalamna Police who immediately alerted senior police officials. Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal himself flashed the description of the girl and the suspect on wireless. Dr Singal then directed Crime Branch officers and all Deputy Commissioners of Police to immediately trace the suspect and rescue the girl.
Almost the entire force was patrolling the streets and on the lookout for the girl with the description relayed over the wireless. Chandu Thakre, a wireless operator, while returning home after attending his duties, noticed a girl riding with a man. The girl’s description and that of the suspect matched with the one described by the Police Chief. So, in a flash, Thakre pounced upon the man and caught him. Thakre also began questioning Surendra about the girl and the victim started crying which only confirmed the constable’s suspicion.
Thakre immediately informed the police control room. A posse of cops rushed to the spot and rescued the minor girl. Further investigation is being carried out by Kalamna Police. The alert and prompt action on part of the constable saved the girl from the clutches of her captors and provided a sense of relief for the city police that are busy with elections.
