Teenage girl who jumped from flyover in Nagpur dies of injuries

Nagpur: The 20-year-old girl, who had jumped from the Mecosabagh Flyover in Nagpur on Wednesday, succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital. Jaripatka police have registered an accidental death in the matter and have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact reason behind the incident.

The deceased, Tanishka Roshan Nagrare, was a resident of Awale Nagar, Kapil Nagar. She was rushed to Abhinav Multi-Speciality Hospital, Lashkaribagh, in an unconscious state but died of her critical injuries.

The incident has outraged citizens who have raised concern regarding low height of side walls of flyovers across Nagpur and lack of safety measures.

According to police, the girl had left home at 1 pm on Wednesday and later jumped from the flyover at about 3 pm over an issue in her love life. Locals swiftly moved her to a private hospital where she died during treatment on Thursday. She had suffered multiple fractures and sustained head injury. Her family members are likely to file a case on Saturday, said police.

Initially, police were not able to ascertain the girl’s identity as she was unconscious. Also, neither mobile phone nor any documents were found with her. Her photos were circulated by Jaripatka police in different groups. Ultimately, her parents identified her.

In the last five years, 104 people committed suicides due to issues related to love relationship. Last year, the city had reported 633 suicides, including 141 involving women. The number was 771 in 2022.
