Nagpur: Two months ago, Mohammad Farhan alias Mohammad Niaz (19), a resident of Boriyapura, in Nagpur, was found dead in a well near Noga Factory. Initially, Pachpaoli police registered a case of accidental death. However, after receiving a tipoff, the police investigation revealed that Farhan had been kidnapped, assaulted and murdered by throwing him into the well. The police have now filed a case of kidnapping and murder against six persons.
The accused include Latif alias Hyderabadi Tajuddin Sheikh (20), from Dobi Nagar, Mominpura, Mohammad Shahid alias Mohammad Aslam (30), Abdul Wasim alias Wasi Abdul Aziz (25), Rehan alias Motu Mukka Riyaz Sheikh (25), Junaid Mohammad Aslam (25), and Irfan alias Ghazni Rehman Khan (35), a resident of Motibagh. Latif Hyderabadi has been arrested, while Shahid is already in jail for an attempted murder case filed at Kapil Nagar police station.
According to the police, there has been a long-standing feud between Shahid and Ajman, Farhan’s twin brother. In December 2023, Ajman and his associates attacked Shahid and assaulted him. Since then, Shahid had been seeking revenge against Ajman. Just three days before the incident, Ajman was arrested by Tehsil police in an assault case. Shahid and the other suspects seized this opportunity.
Around 8.30 pm on April 21, Shahid and Latif intercepted Farhan near Boriyapura. Under the guise of having a conversation, they took him on a motorcycle to the premises of Noga Factory in Motibagh area. There, they assaulted him. Since Shahid couldn’t swim, the others lifted Farhan and threw him into the well. They waited until Farhan drowned and then left the scene. The next day, Farhan’s body was discovered in the well, shirtless.
Farhan’s parents had suspected foul play from the beginning, but the police lacked evidence. A few days ago, Tehsil’s Police Inspector Sandeep Bua and his team were inspecting the homes of criminals in Dobi Nagar. They observed a young man conducting surveillance on police activities near Shahid’s residence. Upon questioning, he revealed that Latif had confided in him about Farhan’s murder. This information was relayed to Pachpaoli police.
PI Bapurao Raut and PI Sandeep Bua then initiated a joint investigation. They scrutinized the locations and phone records of the suspects. With sufficient evidence gathered, Latif Hyderabadi was arrested. He implicated the other suspects which led to the resolution of Farhan’s murder case. Latif remains in police custody as per the court’s order. Shahid will be arrested from jail with a production warrant. The search for the remaining accused is going on.
