Dr. Dipen Agrawal, Convener – Sarkar Jagao Vanjijya Bachao Sangharsh Samiti (SJVBSM) and President – Chamber of Associations of Maharashtra Industry & Trade (CAMIT) reacting to the government’s latest order said that he appreciates the alertness of administration, however, the order imposing fresh restrictions across the state is unwarranted and without any rational behind it.

Dr. Agrawal further said that during last two years SDMA has issued orders every now and then. It appears that in the process SDMA has lost sight to its scientific order dated 4th June, 2021. The said orderwas a complete code in itself, it covered all aspect including closing (locking), opening (unlocking) of districts based on seven days positivity rate and oxygen bed occupancy rate of that district.

It is highhandedness of SDMA to impose restrictions throughout the state for spike in daily covid positive cases or omicron cases in a city or two of the State. The order is arbitrary because it gives unbridled discretionary powers to DDMA to impose stricter restriction as per their whims and fancies.

Dr. Dipen Agrawal sharing the concern of administration about Omicron variant of Covid-19 virus said that unwarranted restriction and harassing business community is not the solution for preventing omicron from spreading in Maharashtra.

The solution lies in strictly implementing screening, testing and tracking all domestic and foreign passengers returning/traveling to India. Stringent checking at all entry points (international airports) and directing passengers for mandatory institutional quarantine should be the norm for the day.

Dr. Dipen Agrawal on behalf of business community of the state and more particularly the most affected sector due to pandemic has demanded that Hon’ble Chief Minister and Minister for Disaster Management & Relief should intervene and direct the SDMA to impose restriction in accordance to its order dated 4/6/2021.

Else government should first announce financial relief package for affected sectors before implementing the state level restriction irrespective of low covid cases in majority of cities in the state.
