International Chess Day is celebrated annually on July 20, the day the International Chess Federation (FIDE) was founded, in 1924. Chess is one of the oldest games with a combination of sport, scientific thought, and art elements. With an endeavour to promote this game, the students of Grade VIII A of Delhi Public School Kamptee Road, Nagpur presented an assembly on the theme ‘International Chess Day’ on 20th July, 2023.
During the assembly, the students passionately emphasized the numerous educational benefits of chess. They expounded on how playing chess not only enhances cognitive abilities but also fosters logical reasoning and strategic thinking, essential skills for personal and academic growth. Moreover, the students shared captivating insights into the legendary Grandmaster of the World Chess, Mr. VishwanathanAnand, inspiring everyone with his remarkable journey and achievements in the world of chess.
Adding a creative touch, the students showcased the intricacies of chess through an expressive dance performance. Each movement represented the significance of every chess piece on the board, effectively conveying the strategic nature of the game and its potential impact on intellectual development.
The Principal, Ms. DivyaDwivedi addressed the gathering by sharing how the game can help improve cognitive abilities and boost overall well-being. She shed light on how playing chess can lead to improved memory, sharper analytical thinking, and overall well-being. Encouraging the students to integrate chess into their routine, she instilled a sense of motivation to explore the beauty of this timeless game.
