Thieves steal booty worth Rs 5.22 lakh in daylight burglary

Nagpur: In daring daylight burglary, thieves stole cash and gold ornaments collectively worth over Rs 5.22 lakh from the house of a businessman in Jaripatka area on Monday. A resident of Flat No 6-B, Sunderjeevan Apartment, Plot No 520, Clark Town, Pawan Vishveshwar Talwar (56) locked his around 12.30 pm and went to Tehsil Office for some work.

Burglars, who were allegedly keeping a watch of Talwar’s movements, sneaked into his flat after breaking open the door lock.

They entered the bedroom and took away Rs 1.20 lakh cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 4,02,500 from an almirah. When Talwar returned home, he was shocked to find the broken door lock and cash and ornaments stolen from the almirah. He called the police immediately. Staff from Jaripatka Police Station, led by API Bajbalkar visited the spot and started the probe.

Talwar told investigators that the theft took place between 12.30 pm and 1 pm. After recording Talwar’s statement, Jaripatka Police registered a case under Sections 454 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code. Cops were clueless about the perpetrators involved in the crime till Tuesday evening.
