Three arrested for chain-snatching

Based on the case registered in the Crime case No 51/16 under Sections 392 and 34 of Indian Penal Code and the vehicle and the confidential tip off received the, the In-Charge of Sitabuldi Police Station allocated the work of detecting the accused involved in Chain snatching incidents in Sitabuldi area.

Under the guidance of the senior Police Officials, and the In-Charge Police Inspector of Sitabuldi Police Station Police Inspector Satyaveer Bandewar, the police personnel succeeded in apprehending the accused based on the secret tip off.

The accused apprehended included:

  1. Mohammed Sajid alias Baba Faiz Mohammed Siddiqui aged 32 years and a resident of Thakur Plot, Near Ek Minar, Mota Taj Bagh was arrested from Old Pardhi Naka.
  2. Shafia alias Appu Rafiq Khan aged 27 years and a resident of Raut Nagar, Opposite Water Tank, Dighori New Naka(falling within jurisdiction of Nandanwan Police Station) and
  3. Rakesh Sharadchandra Ninave aged 27 years and a resident of Plot No 70, Raut Nagar, Dighori was the accused who used to easily dispose off the stolen goods in District Kanker in Chhattisgarh.

An offence Crime No 446/15 was registered under Sections 392 and 34 of Indian Penal Code. A Police Custodial Remand was obtained from the court.

During the PCR on sustained interrogation, the accused Mohammed Sajid alias Baba Faiz Mohammed Siddiqui and Shafia alias Appu Rafiq Khan confessed to their crimes and said that they had in fact snatched chains from different parts of the city. They also said that they used to sell the stolen or snatched chains to Jeweller identified as Rakesh Sharadchandra Ninave. However, when the cops reached the residence of the jeweler, he had absconded along with his family. However, when he was subsequently arrested, he confessed to have purchased ornaments from the accused. During his Police Custodial Remand, he confessed to have purchased stolen goods. Stolen Gold ornaments weighing 78 grams of gold from 9 accused costing in all Rs 1, 69,000/-were also recovered from the possession of the jeweler.

Similarly the two-wheeler Bajaj Pulsar Motorcycle used in the chain-snatching incidents costing Rs 30,000/- (approx) was recovered from Mohammed Sajid alias Baba Faiz Mohammed Siddiqui.

The above detection and apprehending the accused was under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Shailesh Balkawde, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sitabuldi Area) Ingle and under the In-Charge of Sitabuldi Police Station Senior Police Inspector Satyaveer Bandewar.

The police personnel of Sitabuldi Police Station who succeeded in    apprehending the accused include: Police Sub-Inspector S W Matte, Police Sub-Inspector R K Munde, Woman Police Sub-Inspector M H Waghade, Police Constable Ajay Kale (Buckle No 1014), Police Constable Narayan Kirad (Buckle No 4315), Naik Police Constable Prashant Ninave (Buckle No 2127), Constable Kamlesh Ganer (Buckle No 5917), Constable Atul Chate (Buckle No 2663) and Constable Prem Patil (Buckle No 3790).
