Nagpur: In a major swoop undertaken by the crime branch, three bookies were apprehended in the spot while two masterminds are said to be absconding in the city on February 20, 2016 at around 1: 30 pm. One of the masterminds Ajay Raut is the very victim of the kidnapping by Raju Bhadre and his cohorts.
Acting on a tip off, the Nagpur Crime Branch sleuths raided a flat in Sumati Apartments in Ajni area on February 20, 2016 at around 1: 30 pm.
While addressing the media personnel, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ranjan Kumar Sharma said that the raiding cops found that three accused were busy in accepting bets for the Cricket match between South Africa and England.
The seized the following material used in betting racket from the flat
- Lap Top
- LCD TV
- Set-top box
- 38 mobile phone sets
- One printer of Cannon company
- Betting figures
- 2 pens
- Cash worth Rs 54, 600/-.
The police personnel seized in all material and cash worth Rs 2.93 lakhs.
When the arrested bookies were subjected to stern questioning, they revealed that the mastermind of the cricket betting racket is none other than Ajay Raut and he used to make available his flat for running the cricket betting racket.
Similarly, another mastermind Jeetu Kamnani was also said to be involved in the betting racket.
These bookies were booked under Section 4 and5 of Maharashtra Gambling Act.
The arrested accused
- Anand Tukaramji Bhondre aged 34 years and a resident of Rashanakunj Mankapur Ring Road, Nagpur
- Pramod Manohar Bhojapure aged 37 years and a resident of 226, NIT Layout, Near KDK College, Nandanwan Nagpur (in a house rented from Razia Anjum Babu Khan).
- Suresh Nathuji Tumdam aged 30 years and a resident of Bhagwan Nagar, Pipla, Hudkeshwar, Nagpur (in a rented house of Dhane)
- Ajay Shamrao Raut a resident of Trimurti Nagar falling under Ranaparatap Nagar Police Station, Nagpur
- Jitu Kamnani a resident of Jaripatka Nagpur.
The above raiding of the betting racket was undertaken by the Crime Branch officials ACP Nilesh Raut, Police Sub Inspector Sudhir Beghel, Police Constable Mangesh Harde, Constable Prakash Sidam, Raju Ghogte, Suresh Hingnekar, Naik Police Constable Vijay Dasarwar, Driver Satish Raut, Sepoy Sujit Deware, Amol Padghan under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ranjan Kumar Sharma.
