Tiger killed in territorial fight in Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve

Nagpur/Gondia: A team of the Forest Department found a tiger (T-9), approximately 9-10 years old, killed in a territorial fight near Nagdev Pahadi region of the Navegaon Nagzira Tiger Reserve (NNTR) on Saturday.

As per reports, Forest Beat Officer JS Kendra, was patrolling with his team when he found the male tiger dead. From preliminary inspections, it was speculated that the tiger may have been killed in a territorial fight. Jayram Gowda, NNTR Director, Gondia, Deputy Director Rahul Gavai, Sakoli, Joint Forest Conservator M S Chavan and Forest Range Officer V M Bhosale reached the spot. The team inspected the spot and the carcass of the feline.

Honorary Wildlife Warden of Gondia Sawan Bahekar, NTCA representative Rupesh Nimbarte, NGO representative Chhatrapal Chaudhary and Veterinary doctors Dr Shital Wankhede, Dr Saurabh Kavthe, Dr Samir Shendra and Dr Ujwal Bavanthade were also present on the spot.

The team of veterinarians performed the tiger’s autopsy. All the organs of the feline are intact. The funeral was performed after the post mortem in the presence of the team. VM Bhosale is investigating further under the guidance of Rahul Gavai.
