Nagpur: In a disturbing development, a tigress and her two cubs were found dead near Metepar village of Chimur Forest Range in Chandrapur district. The incident came to light on Monday morning. The deaths of tigress and cubs has raised question marks over the tiger conservation programme launched by the Maharashtra Government. Cause of death of the wild beasts is being investigated.
On Monday morning, some villagers had gone near a lake adjacent to Metepar village. They were taken aback when they spotted the tigress and her two cubs lying dead in the wooded area. The dead cubs, it is being surmised, aged around eight to ten months.
Soon the news spread and hundreds of villagers thronged to the spot to see the dead tigress and two cubs. Some of them informed Forest Department officials who rushed to the spot immediately.
On being investigated, the officials found a dead chital lying at a distance nearby. The officials took into possession the carcasses of the tigress and two cubs and sent them for post-mortem. The officials said that the exact cause of death of the tigress and her two cubs could not be ascertained and the post mortem could throw light.
