Tirpude College of Social Work reaccredited with ‘A+’ grade by NAAC

Tirpude College of Social Work has been awarded ‘A+’ grade by National Accreditation and Assessment Council constituted by University Grant Commission in the 3rd cycle of its reaccreditation recently. It is the only college in the faculty of social work in Maharashtra State and R.T.M. Nagpur University, Nagpur having achieved ‘A+’ status as well as the only Social Work College in India that has been recognized as the college with Potential for Excellence by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. The college is permanently affiliated to R. T. M. Nagpur University and is recognized as a Place for Higher learning and Research. The name of college has been empanelled for evaluation of Govt. Scheme of Maharashtra. The college has Memorandum of Understandings (MOU’s) with Fire and Security Association of India (FSAI), ANACONLAB, Nagpur, Govt. of Maharashtra State for evaluation. The college has prepared a proposal for its Autonomy which will be submitted to University Grants Commission New Delhi. It is indeed a matter of great pride that we have completed 50 years of fruitful existence in the year 2016.

Tirpude College of Social Work, Nagpur imparting education, training and research in the field of social work was established in 1966 by former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Nashikrao Tirpude with an aim to impart quality education in the field of social work for the upliftment of the weaker section of the society. We at Tirpude College are encouraged and motivated by the management of the college especially President Yugantar Education Society, Rajkumar Tirpude, working President Vanita Tirpude, Vice president, Dr. T. V. Gedam, and General Secretary, S Wamanrao Kombade who always try to enhance the academic level so as to churn out competent human resource, high class academicians, good researchers and the authorities in the subject. The college is recognized by Ministry of Social Justice, Govt. of Maharashtra & University Grant Commission New Delhi. The college has previously been accredited with “A” grade in 2004 and 2011 by NAAC.

Tirpude College of Social Work came into being on 1st July 1966 offering Certificate Course in Social Work and B.S.W. Later on the college had started Diploma in Social Work (DSW). The DSW was converted into Master of Social Work in 1978. As on today, Tirpude College of Social Work is one of the pioneer institutes in central India imparting Social Work Education and Training since 1978 onwards to create knowledge and value based society with a vision of inclusive and sustainable development through qualitative educational empowerment.

Tirpude College has formed a ‘Sahyog’ cluster as lead college joining with 09 other social work colleges under R.T.M. Nagpur University to share the curricular, co-curricular and others CSR activities by organizing inter collegiate sport, cultural and academic sharing such as seminar, workshops, conferences and research activities. The college has organized 12 national seminars sponsored by Indian council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi and by self funding as well as in the collaboration with other social and academic organizations on various social issues such as farmer suicides, disaster management, scheduled caste, scheduled tribal, ageing, sustainable developmental goals, water security, pre marriage counselling, infatuation of love and so on out of which six books have been published.

The college is constantly working in the field of research. So far the college has done 08 major & minor research projects sponsored by ICSSR and UGC on various important social issues from the year 2012-17. The opinion polls were conducted in Nagpur city on various burning social issues such as compulsory use of helmets, capital punishment, participation of criminals in polities, demonetization, electricity load shedding, violence against women, hike in petrol prices, and imposition of LBT and credibility of EVM.

In extension activities the college has child guidance and student counselling centre, PEACE project, N.S.S. unit of 150 students, women development centre, and celebration of National and International Days, Birth and Death anniversaries of great leaders, social reformers of the Nation. During 2011-2017 the college has organized all together 190 pprogrammes and street plays on various social issues.

The college is participating in activities of ‘Samata Sandesh’ from Deekshbhumi every year from 2014 onwards with the massage of drug de-addiction, unity and integrity, brotherhood and equality with maximum students and teaching non-teaching faculty for which the college has won the award for excellence continuously for 04 years, N.S.S. State level camp 2nd Best position to the college team (2015-16), Mahatma Fule Talent Research Academy Award, certificate to the team for initiative for Swachha Bharat Abhiyan session 2015-16 and University Level NSS camp First position session 2015-16.

The college has followed the Institutional Social Responsibility such as TCSW’s Environmental Services, Water Warrior Training of Trainers (ToT) By Dr. Rajendra Singh Rana, Water Man in India, Disaster Management Training of Trainers (ToT), Minimum use of Plastic & Waste Management, Awareness Campaign against de-addiction. The awareness Programme on Anti-Superstition. It is the only college in R.T.M. Nagpur University that has trained two batches of 20 students for disaster management and water management. We are ready to handle the situation arising out of natural calamities.

The college library is stocked with more than 14,000 books, E-resource, reference books and journals, INFLIBNET, OPAC, Zotero and Book Bank Service. The Faculty is highly competent and well qualified. Result of the college students is consistently better than the University results. Regular monthly LMC meetings held on 6th of every month. The use of plant/ saplings for guests in the college programmes instead of floral bouquets since 2011 onwards. College has started Employees Welfare Fund.

At the graduate level we have 20 girls and 54 boys and at PG level 28 girls and 50 boys i.e. 74 students at BSW level and 78 students at MSW level from 12 states of India. The category wise distribution of the students the college has 33.67% S.C., 26.52% General, 13.83% S.T., 18.15% OBC, 7.09% VJ/NT and 0.67% SBC students during the year 2011-2017. Similarly medium wise it is 61.85% Marathi, 24.81% English and 13.33% Hindi. The college has translated university syllabus from English to Hindi and Marathi for college students. For better understanding and ready reference the college has published a Module for Dissertation for the students.
