Nagpur: In a first, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) will be using the Intelligent Traffic Management system on Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg.
As per sources, the deal for the same was signed between India and South Korea in November 2022 for almost Rs 1,500 crore. The traffic management system will be using CCTVs cameras as well as drones to monitor the traffic and accidents. A speed enforcement system along with a lane enforcement system will also be placed.
Samruddhi Mahamarg, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 11, 2022, has witnessed nearly 900 accidents in just 100 days of operation. As per a study conducted by Regional Transport Office of Maharashtra Government, the accidents have claimed 31 lives till March 20, 2023.
Explaining more about the advanced traffic management system, MSRDC officials said that there will be one main integrated traffic management centre and around seven regional traffic management centres. The centres will be equipped with high-end gadgets to monitor the route as well as the vehicles.
An optical fibre network will also be set up along the entire stretch.
