Nagpur: Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Shashikant Satav, has announced temporary traffic restrictions for the upcoming convocation at Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) on September 14 and 15, 2024. The event is expected to attract a large number of students and parents, which could lead to traffic congestion in the surrounding areas.
Due to ongoing bridge construction near Ambazari Lake spillway by M/s S G Motwani Company for the Public Works Department, traffic diversions have already been causing a lot of problems to the citizens. A recent ruling by the Nagpur Bench of Bombay High Court mandated that two-wheelers be redirected through VNIT’s internal roads until the construction is completed.
However, on the convocation days, two-wheeler access through VNIT’s internal roads will be restricted. Normal traffic flow will resume on September 16, 2024, with access restored via the Indian Oil Petrol Pump turning. These temporary measures, issued under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, aim to prevent congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow during the event.
To raise public awareness, the Traffic Department will use loudspeakers, email alerts, and other communication methods, with traffic officers from the Sonegaon Division placed at key points to manage traffic.
These restrictions will apply only on September 14 and 15, with regular traffic resuming afterward.
