Chirayu, younger of the two siblings, suffered head injuries after being hit by the car and rolled under its wheels. The accused motorist, Yogesh Mohadikar, instead of fleeing, lifted the boy and helped his family to take him to Government Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead. Mohadikar, who then left GMCH, drove to Hudkeshwar police station and surrendered.

The incident turned the celebratory atmosphere gloomy for the Pawar family, who hail from Waddhamna. The family reached the venue after solemnising marriage rituals at Ramtek. The family had planned a firecracker show outside the reception venue to celebrate the occasion.

The family members claimed the speeding car was being driven on the wrong side. However, Hudkeshwar police sources said Mohadikar was trying to avoid the bursting crackers forcing him to veer to the opposite lane leading to the tragedy.

According to an eyewitness, Mohadikar may not have noticed Chirayu running out of the venue to see the firecracker show as there was a car parked in front of the venue which might have blocked his vision.

Hudkeshwar Police registered a case under Sections 279, 304(A) of the Indian Penal Code against the car driver Yogesh Damodar Mohadikar (42), a resident of 305, Dahlia Building, Shiv Elite Township, Shankarpur, and started investigation.
