Nagpur: IN A ghastly mishap, a recklessly-driven truck crushed a scooterette-borne middle-aged man to death on Ambazari bypass on Monday afternoon. Passers-by were horrified at the scene as the truck dragged him and his vehicle for over 50 metres and finally stopped after dashing against the footpath.
The trucker fled the spot fearing public wrath. Identified as Kailash Krishna Gotwar (52), the deceased was a resident of Plot No 49, PMT Colony, Ranala, Kamptee. An employee of a Butiboribased private company, Gotwar was going towards University Campus Square from Ambazari direction on his Hona Activa (MH-40/CB-5992) around 3.20 pm.
A speeding truck (MH31/CQ-0627) coming from opposite direction hit him. Gotwar and his Honda Activa got stuck under the wheels. The truck driver dragged Gotwar and finally crushed him to death. The truck driver jumped out of the cabin and fled.
A huge crowd on onlookers gathered at the spot. Staff from Ambazari Police Station led by Senior Inspector Dr Ashok Bagul rushed to the spot. Deputy Commissioner of Police (T raffic) Sarang Awhad also visited the spot. Cops removed the mutilated body that was stuck in between the two rear wheels of the truck and sent it to Government Medical College & Hospital for the autopsy.
Ambazari Police launched a search for the driver of the ‘killer’ truck after registering a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act.
