Nagpur: A woman was killed when a speeding truck hit a two-wheeler on which she was riding at Jaiprakash Nagar area of Rana Pratap Nagar on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Sunita B Ramanakar Naidu (53), a resident of Rajvilas Apartment in Narendra Nagar, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital. Sunita, a housewife, was survived by her husband, B Ramanakar Naidu, who serves as a TC in Railways, and their daughter, Anushka, who is currently preparing for the NEET exam.
According to police, the accident took place on Sunday at 8.45 pm. Sunita had accompanied her daughter to Khamla’s Somalwar High School to drop her off at tuition classes. On her way back home, tragedy struck as a cement mixer truck (MH-46/F-3173) collided with her two-wheeler near Jaiprakash Nagar Chowk. The impact of the collision caused Sunita and her vehicle to be trapped under the truck. The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle, said police.
Passers-by alerted the police about the accident. Sunita was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her dead during the treatment.
A case under Sections 304 (a), 279 of Indian Penal Code read with Sections 134 and 177 of Motor Vehicle Act was registered by the police. Further investigation is on.
