Two drivers killed in truck-tipper collision near Ramtek

Nagpur: In a ghastly mishap, a speeding truck and tipper collided head on National Highway No 7 near Ghotitok village under the jurisdiction of Ramtek Police Station, on Monday, resulting in death of drivers of both the heavy vehicles.

The deceased drivers have been identified as Rupesh Rajkumar Dhurve (22), a resident of Karkoti, Tehsil Kurai, District Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, and Raju Kondu Kuthe (40), a resident of Khapa, Tehsil Tumsar.

According to police, on Monday night, a truck (MH32/Q-1092) driven by Raju Kuthe was en route from Tumsar to Ramtek after loading manganese from Dongri Buzurg mine. Simultaneously, a tipper (MH-40/BF-3434) driven by Rupesh Dhurve was speeding from Ramtek towards Tumsar after loading ballast. Around 1 am, near Ghotitok village, Rupesh lost control on the tipper due to high speed resulting in a head-on collision with the manganese-laden truck. The impact of the collision was so severe that the front cabins of both heavy vehicles were extensively damaged.

Upon receiving the information, Ramtek Police rushed to the mishap spot and rushed the seriously injured drivers to Government Hospital in Ramtek. Later, both the drivers succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Following the incident, the Ramtek Police team shifted both the vehicles involved from the road to clear the traffic congestion. Ramtek Police have registered a case under Sections 279, 304 (A) of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigations are on.
