Nagpur: Two persons were injured, one of them seriously, after a speeding ambulance collided with a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus near Ajni Railway Station in the Dhantoli Police Station area late Friday night.
Eyewitnesses reported that the ambulance (MH-11/BD3006) travelling from Chuna Bhatti direction towards Ajni Railway Station, suddenly made a sharp right turn and collided with an oncoming MSRTC bus (MH-40/Y-5952) around 9.15 pm. The impact of the collision was severe, causing significant damage to the front portions of both the vehicles.
The male nurse seated next to the ambulance driver, Shiv Kumar, suffered serious injuries and was immediately rushed to Government Medical College & Hospital. Vehicular traffic in the area was disrupted for nearly an hour due to the accident.
Police from Dhantoli Police Station arrived at the spot and used a crane to clear the damaged ambulance from the road, restoring the flow of traffic. According to MSRTC officials, the bus was en route from Nagpur to Nanded when the accident occurred. Neither the bus driver nor any passenger was injured in the accident, they added.
Dhantoli Police are conducting further investigation into the incident.
Hit-and-run: Speeding vehicle knocks young man dead
A hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a pedestrian in the Hingna area. The victim, identified as Raju Gulabrao Salame (30), a resident of Kumbhartoli near Sheetla Mata Mandir, was struck by a speeding vehicle early Wednesday morning.
Salame was reportedly on his way to his sister’s house in Panjra around 5 am when the accident occurred. A rashly driven vehicle hit Salame in front of Kanchan Ganga Society on Hingna-Mondha Road, leaving him severely injured. The driver of the vehicle fled the scene fearing legal complications.
Passers-by rushed a profusely bleeding Salame to the Government Medical College& Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at around 7 am on Thursday.
Hingna Police have registered a case after recording the statement of Pandurang Vitthal Kakde (44), a resident of Modha village. The case has been registered under Sections 281, 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Sections 134, 177, 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act. An investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for Salame’s death.
