Two inmates in Nagpur Central Jail die of ill-health

Nagpur: Two inmates in Nagpur Central Prison died of ill-health one after another on Friday and Saturday.

According to police, the under-trial accused Narendra Rajesh Wahane (39), a resident of Plot No. 209, Adiwasi Society, Nagpur, was booked in a fraud of Rs 1.67 crore and was under judicial custody at Central Jail.He died due to ill-health at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMC&H) on Friday.

The accused Wahane was charged under Sections 420, 406, 409, 467, 468, 471 and 34 of Indian Penal Code in a case registered at Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station. His health deteriorated in jail. The jail staffers rushed him to the hospital where he breathed his last on Friday

According to police, Narendra Wahane and his brother Vijay Wahane had duped many people to the tune of Rs 1.65 crore in dubious land deals. The offence was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Rohankumar Ajaykumar Singh (33), a resident of Flat No. 302, Melina Apartments, Swagat Society, Shankar Nagar. The accused had shown him four plots at Gayatri Nagar, IT Park, and negotiated a deal. Singh had transferred Rs 72.40 lakh through RTGS after the online registry and sale deed of the four plots. Singh later realised that he was being cheated and hence demanded his money back from the two accused brothers.

The accused returned Rs 20 lakh to Singh but defaulted on the remaining amount. Further inquiries had revealed that the two accused brothers had duped three more persons namely Kunal Padole, BJYM Nagpur President Parendra Patle and Telgote by taking a total Rs 1.65 crore including Singh’s money in the shady land deals.

Similarly, Baburao Marotiram Panch (59), a resident of Jagnade Square, was convicted in a rape case. He was undergoing life imprisonment. According to jail sources, the convict Baburao Panch was admitted to hospital on February 23 due to bad health. He breathed his last on Saturday.

Dhantoli police registered accidental death in both the cases. Further probe is on.
