Railway police has caught red-handed a Head constable and police constable posted at Motibagh office of Railway Protection Force (RPF) while trying to rob a labour of Rs 10,000. The accused arrested are identified as Head Constable Uma Shankar Bhivgade and police constable Prakash Kale.
Police sources from GRP informed that the duo was involved in robbing many people earlier. On Monday early morning, the duo had seen a labourer smoking near the narrow gauge line. Bhivgade and Kale were in uniform when they reprimanded the labourer, whose name is still withheld by railway police, for smoking and threatened him of taking police action against him.
The duo was extorting Rs 10,000 from him when a railway official noticed them and caught them red-handed. Both confessed to crime and the labourer from Kalamna filed a complaint against them.
It has been learnt that last week, Bhivgade and Kale had robbed a senior citizen from Parasia of Rs 3000. Cops informed that the elderly man was waiting near the narrow gauge line when the duo reprimanded him and took him to a deserted location near railway station. Both cops looted him of Rs 3000.
Till late night, railway police were interrogating both.
