Nagpur: The Maharashtra state government has hiked the motor vehicle tax for all two wheeler . The hike in road tax was supposed to come into force from April 1, though the official notification regarding the same hasn’t been sent out yet. However the dealerships across the state are yet to revise the price list though they are aware of this proposal and most of them are awaiting the transport department’s official notification.
Currently, road tax is uniform across the motorcycle and scooter segment. However with the proposed change, two wheeler powered by engines up to 99cc will now be charged 8% road tax, those two wheeler with engine capacity between 100-299cc will attract a tax of 9 per cent whereas the ones with a displacement above 300cc will attract a tax of 10 per cent.
However the most affected will be the CBU (completely built unit) motorcycles which will now attract a whopping 20% road tax. So, if you are planning a motorcycle/scooter don’t postpone it. Get it now before it becomes expensive.
