Nagpur: Tension ran high in Gayatri Nagar area of Mankapur as two women and a kid, who were sitting over a dilapidated well, fell into it as the surrounding mud caved in. The two women were rescued by nearby people and police. But the kid could not be saved.
According to reports, the well is situated in Gayatri Nagar, Godhni Road in Mankapur police jurisdiction. The well is surrounded by mound of mud. Around around 11 am on Thursday, the two women identified as Surekha Sudhir Chudhary (35), her mother Manda Pramod Mahajan (50) and her son Ankush Sudhir Chaudhary (2) were sitting near the well. Suddenly mud caved in and the three fell into the well full of rain water. Shouts of help alerted the nearby people who rushed to the well. Surekha’s husband Sudhir and his father who were at their nearby house, also rushed to the spot. On seeing the three drowning in the well, Sudhir and his father jumped in the well and succeeded in saving Surekha and Manda.
However, as the well was full of water, the 2-year old Ankush could not be saved and he drowned. Mankapur police officer Atram said that a fire engine of Fire Brigade was summoned to draw water from the well. Body of Ankush was found and sent to Mayo Hospital for post-mortem.
Mankapur cops are investigating the matter further.
