Mumbai/ Nagpur: Attaching yet another feather to the cap of popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian community members living in Britain have launched a bus ‘Modi Express Bus’ to pay regards to him on account of his first ever visit to United Kingdom. The bus will be run for a month around the places of his visits in Britain. The bus was launched on last Sunday at Leicester and it stopped at Ealing Road, Wembley, which is called ‘Little India’, and then further stopped at Trafalgar Square, said media reports.
Mayuri Parmar of ‘UK Welcomes Modi’ organizing committee said, “We discussed Tea in India, now we will discuss Bus in Britain.” More than 400 organizations have registered themselves as registered partners to accord grand welcome to Modi at Wembley Stadium on November 13, said the sources.
The said bus was launched with traditional breaking of coconut at the hands of Lord Dolar Popat (UK House of Lords) who said, “Modi is coming to UK for positive inter-action between people of India and Britain. And, we are eagerly awaiting Modi’s arrival in November, and even I am enthusiastic to find the people of our community coming together and supporting each other.”
Keith Vaz, who is originally Indian and now British MP over a long period of time, encouraging people to join Modi Express Bus launched from Leicester, said, “You may forget your smart card at home (for going and coming), but please do not forget to carry Modi Card to join Modi Express Bus.
Muhammad Butt, leader of Brent Council at London Borough, said, “I am eager to welcome Prime Minister Modi in Brent. There is a great enthusiasm among all communities, and Wembley Stadium is very much here only.”
60,000 people to attend event– UK Welcomes Modi
As many as 60,000 people are expected to attend the event called UK Welcomes Modi, tickets for entry (invitation cards) will be distributed from Wembley Stadium next week onward. People from about 250 cities and suburban towns have applied for obtaining invitations. People from remote Dundee to Plymouth have applied for invitation-card.
According to Modi Express Bus coordinator, Nitin Palan, their website will become active by next week and the people can book tickets for Modi Express Bus. The applicants for UK Welcomes Modi event include two-month-old children to 100-year old. A large segment of 15 lakh Indians in UK will participate in Wembley Stadium function.
