Umesh Kolhe murder: Two more accused arrested by NIA from Amravati

Nagpur/Amravati: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested two more accused in connection with the murder of veterinary pharmacy owner Umesh Kolhe which took place in Amravati on June 21 last. With these, the total number of arrests in the case has gone up to 9, according to reports.

The reports said that the NIA team has got the transit remand of arrested accused Murshid Ahmad Abdul Rashid and Abdul Arbaj Abdil Salim till August 7. NIA team reached Amravati on Tuesday and after searching throughout the night, succeeded in arresting Murshid Ahmad Abdul Rashid (41) from his home in Transport Nagar and Abdul Arbaj Abdul Salim (23)from Lalkhadi. Their arrest has also been registered at City Kotwali Police.

According to the reports, one of them allegedly collected fund for execution of the murder while the other allegedly provided shelter to accused after the murder. NIA team presented both the accused before Amravati District Court at 3 pm on Wednesday and got transit remand of the accused till August 7. The team will now take both the accused to Mumbai and will present them before NIA court on August 7.

It may be recalled that on June 21 at around 9.30 pm when Umesh Kolhe was returning home after closing his veterinary medical store, he was stabbed to death near Mahila Mahavidyalaya. He was killed allegedly for posting a message on a social media platform in favour of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The incident had taken place a week before two men murdered Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur, Rajasthan.

Amravati Kotwali Police had arrested 7 accused in the case. On July 2, the investigation of the case was handed over to the NIA by the Union Home Ministry. The NIA team, camping in Amravati, conducted several searches at various places. It also looked into the links of the accused and people and agencies funding them and also seized some pamphlets and other devices. The team took all seven accused to Mumbai on transit remand and presented them before NIA Court. The eighth accused named by police for involvement in the murder, is still at large.
