Nagpur News.
Nagpur Police will go into history for a unique development! A Senior Police Inspector was bestowed with one step promotion as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP)for only 12 hours!! He was promoted in the morning but retired in the evening.
And the “lucky” policeman is Senior Police Inspector Jamil Ahmed. Jamil Ahmed has served the city and district as well. His retirement was due on December 31 and promotion, too, was due. However, Jamil Ahmed’s promotion order was coming from the Home Department and the office of Director General of Police. What was coming nearer and nearer was his retirement date. The non-reaching promotion order was making the Senior Police Inspector Jamil Ahmed uneasy day by day. Promotion or No Promotion. Will he retire as Senior Police Inspector after putting 30 years of service?
Finally, the Home Department woke up from deep slumber and faxed Jamil Ahmed’s promotion to order on December 30 evening to the office of SP (Rural). However, the fax could be noticed only in the morning of December 31 when the office opened. The fax had message that the Senior Police Inspector Jamil Ahmed has promoted as Assistant Commissioner of Police and has been transferred to the Regional Police Training School (RPTS) in Surendra Nagar, Nagpur. The ACP will retire on December 31 itself, the fax said. The SP (Rural) office completed the paper formalities and the Senior PI Jamil Ahmed was transferred from the Traffic Branch of Rural Police to RPTS as ACP. Jamil Ahmed scrambled to the RPTS and handed over his promotion and transfer order as well to the Principal of RPTS B K Gavrane (SP). Gavrane asked Ahmed to join RPTS.
After joining the RPTS as Assistant Commissioner of Police in the morning of December 31, the ACP Jamil Ahmed retired in the evening of the same day. The ACP Jamil Ahmed “enjoyed” the 12 hours as ACP. However, Jamil Ahmed will receive all the retirement benefits like pension as that of Assistant Commissioner of Police. The ACP was given a grand farewell by the Office of SP (Rural) on Wednesday.
Jamil Ahmed, after becoming Assistant Commissioner of Police, first saluted his wife Huma. Jamil Ahmed married Huma 31 years ago. He gave all credit to Huma as he said, “Huma supported me in my entire life as a policeman, who has to perform various duties and there is no bar for returning to home while on duty. A policeman’s duty runs for hours together and there are no leaves as the duty comes first,” the ACP Jamil Ahmed said.
