Nagpur: Fearing ignominy, an unmarried pregnant girl ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence in Wathoda police area on Monday evening.
According to police sources, the girl (19) was a first year student. She befriended a local youth and the relations blossomed between them. On pretext of marriage, the youth sexually exploited the girl. He used to visit the girl’s place and exploit her sexually.

When she got pregnant, the boyfriend refused to marry her and also disowned the child. Fearing angry reaction from her parents and ignominy as well, the girl committed suicide on Monday at 6 pm. The girl hanged herself from a ceiling fan with dupatta when she was alone at her residence.
The incident came to light when the parents arrived home. On being informed, a team of Wathoda police rushed to the spot and sent the body for postmortem. A case of accidental death has been registered by Wathoda police. Further investigation is on.
