Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav met Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati at her residence on Wednesday after the SP registered huge victory in the Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha bye-elections 2018. Notably, the BSP had extended support to the SP candidates in Gorakhpur and Phulpur bypolls.
The Samajwadi Party has registered a massive victory in Gorakhpur bypoll and Phulpur bypoll. The voting for the same was held on Sunday. SP’s Praveen Nishad and Nagendra Pratap Singh Patel have respectively won from Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats.
Earlier, addressing a press conference, Yadav attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said, “Jo sarkaar janta ko dukh deti hai, janta usko sahi jawaab deti hai. Acche din toh aaye nahi, janta ek ho gayi aur BJP ke bure din laane ka kaam kiya (People give a strong reply to the government which makes them suffer. Good days never came but, the people united and brought bad days for the BJP).”
“If this is the anger of people in areas of CM & Deputy CM, you can imagine the anger of the people of the rest of the country,” he added.
On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has described the by-elections results as unexpected. He said that the BJP will review what went wrong in the elections. Adityanath admitted that BJP’s overconfidence resulted in the loss.
Elections on Gorakhpur and Phulpur Lok Sabha seats were necessitated after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated the seats on being elected to UP Legislative Council.
