Maharashtra School students are all geared up to get vaccinated under the children vaccination plan for 15-18 year olds. With BMC closing Mumbai schools, state School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad has shared the children vaccination plan for the state. Along with this, she has announced that the Maharashtra school closing decision has been left with District authorities.

Maharashtra Schools are prepared to host free vaccination drive for children in the 15-18 age group. After reviewing the preparations for the same, Varsha Gaikwad took to her Twitter and said that most schools have set themselves a target to administer 1st dose of vaccine to maximum students in January, 2022 itself.

Emphasising on the need to follow COVID-19 safety protocols, Gaikwad reiterated that District authorities across the state can take a decision on reopening or closing Maharashtra Schools. It is because of this decision-making autonomy, BMC had reviewed the situation in Mumbai and decided to close schools till January 31, 2022.

During the discussion on children’s vaccination plan in Maharashtra, the possibility of increasing vaccination centres in few districts was also considered. Varsha Gaikwad’s official tweet on this reads, “The possibility of increasing the number of vaccinators for Osmanabad, Chandrapur, Solapur and Wardha, where Japanese Encephalitis vaccination campaign is also ongoing, will be studied in coordination with the health department. #vaccination #schools #Covaxin.”

Maharashtra School closing has been deliberated upon by many district authorities due to a spike in COVID-19 cases over the last few days. In other news, Pune district authorities are also planning to hold a review meeting today, in which the possibility of imposing curbs might be explored. It is also likely that schools and colleges might be ordered to close or operate with a lower capacity.
