Nagpur: In yet another sensational burglary in Hudkeshwar Police Station area, miscreants took away a wardrobe vault containing cash and gold ornaments collectively worth Rs 18 lakh from the house of a retired Zilla Parishad (ZP) school teacher on Thursday night.
A resident of Plot No. 35, Suryoday Nagar, Narendra Baliramji Kohad (63) and his wife locked their house and went to attend the wedding reception of their neighbour’s son at Shree Swami Samarth Sevashram Sabhagruha, behind Borkar Hospital on Hudkeshwar Road. Their son also had gone out. A ZP school teacher from Chandrapur, Kohad returned home with his wife from the wedding reception after 45 minutes and was shocked to find the vault stolen from the almirah.
Kohad immediately informed the police. Staff from Hudkeshwar Police Station led by Senior Inspector Jagvendrasingh Rajput arrived and started the probe. A team of the Crime Branch also started a parallel investigation. Senior police officials visited the spot to supervise the probe. Fingerprint experts were summoned to trace the culprits(s).
Preliminary investigations revealed that burglars climbed the compound wall of Kohad’s house when it was locked. After breaking open the lock of the kitchen door, they gained entry into the house. The intruders then went to the bedroom and took away the vault. Kohad told police that the vault contained Rs 45,000 cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs 17.50 lakh.
Hudkeshwar Police, who registered a case under Sections 457, 380 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, are checking the footage of CCTV cameras installed near the spot to identify the burglars.
