Nagpur: In order to separate itself from the violence and harassment being caused by the so called ‘cow vigilantes’ to the people involved in carriage and possession of beef, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal have decided to appoint official ‘cow vigilantes’ and issue authorized Identity Cards to them. The drive is to commence from Nagpur on the occasion of Janmashtami. Later, the exercise will be undertaken across the nation in phases. The step is being taken to keep “genuine” cow protection activists safe and also check violence by “self-proclaimed vigilantes”.
The violence in such cases has increased manifolds since the Narendra Modi led BJP Government came to power at the Centre. In the event of violent acts in beef carriage and possession, Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad were being blamed. However, the organisations, are now trying to take stern steps to detach themselves from such controversies.
“The violent activities are often carried out by “self-proclaimed vigilantes”. It is important to draw a line between real workers and miscreants. This move will prevent troublemakers from creating mayhem in the name of cow protection”, said Hemant Jambhekar, Regional Vice-President, Vishwa Hindu Parishad. “In any case of chaos, our name is often dragged. However, we always conduct our drives with the help of police and do not cause any anarchy. Our mentions often come up as we are linked to cow conservation for a very long time now”, he added.
It is to be mentioned that violence in the name of ‘Gau raksha’ has often landed the government in trouble. In order to deter the same, the government, as well, has now started to take apt steps in the direction. The details of those appointed as official cow vigilantes will also be provided in the police stations.
