Nagpur: Repeatedly failing to succeed in its earlier attempts, the Vidarbha Rajya Andolan Samiti (VRAS) is once again getting prepared to stage agitations afresh. The revised agitation this time includes the issue of electricity in its agenda. The VRAS will start its agitation from Saturday onwards, said the sources. The beginning of agitation will comprise dharnas at Nagpur, and it will be followed by dharnas at Akola, on October 9.
According to VRAS, the Samyukta Maharashtra has been exploiting the resources of Vidarbha and becoming richer while Vidarbha is being pushed to further backwardness. The VRAS is therefore committed for separation of Vidarbha as the last resort. It has been pointed out that the electricity is generated in Vidarbha in abundance but diverted to Samyukta Maharashtra, and not given to Vidarbha sufficiently, not even on reasonably cheaper rates, and Vidarbha is made to bear the brunt of pollution caused by power generation.
The VRAS sources said, it has drafted a report on this issue of injustice caused, and the report would be shared with the people of Vidarbha during agitations. Furthering its role of agitation, the activists said that the ‘stop coal’ agitation would be staged at Wani in Yavatmal district on October 25, in which Vidarbha Statutory Development Board member Madhukarrao Kimmatkar would prominently participate.
