Vidarbha stunner: Congress triumphs by winning 7 seats in a grand comeback

Nagpur: In a stunning comeback in 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Vidarbha, Congress emerged victorious in seven seats it contested in the region. This victory marked a significant triumph for Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which won seven of 10 seats in Vidarbha, ending BJP’s decade-long dominance that began in 2014. In 2019, BJP had won five seats and undivided Shiv Sena three. The decimation was complete with BJP wresting just Nagpur, Akola of the seven seats it contested. Shiv Sena (Shinde) won from Buldhana.

Barve recaptures Ramtek for Congress:

Congress party wrested Ramtek parliamentary constituency as its candidate Shyamkumar Barve retrieved the coveted seat in Nagpur district from Shiv Sena by a big margin. He edged past Raju Parve by 76,768 votes. For Barve, the victory is significant as his wife Rashmi, original nominee from Congress, got edged out of race owing to rejection of her caste validity. In a last minute twist in run up to election, Rashmi’s caste certificate was invalidated and thus Shyamkumar stepped in to became official party candidate.

Shyamkumar Barve of Congress bagged 6,13,025 votes, Raju Parve (Shiv Sena-Shinde) got 5,36,257 votes. Barve won by 76,768 votes

Dhanorkar holds Chanda Fort for Congress:

In a big jolt to State Cabinet Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar, the Congress candidate Pratibha Dhanorkar won the election by a thumbing margin with 2,60,406 votes from Chandrapur-Arni-Wani constituency. It was a key seat for the BJP. Congress candidate Pratibha Dhanorkar got a total of 7,18,410 votes (1,775 postal votes) while the nearest rival BJP candidate Sudhir Mungantiwar secured 4,58,004 votes (including 1,061 postal votes). Pratibha won the election by thumping majority of 2,60,406 votes in the elections.

Two-time BJP MP Tadas loses in Wardha

Amar Kale of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) shattered sitting BJP MP Ramdas Tadas’ hopes to achieve a hattrick in Wardha Lok Sabha constituency. Kale took lead from the second round of counting and maintained it till the last round. After winning, Kale said it was a victory of each and every person who made contribution in his success.

Congress’ Padole wins in Gondia-Bhandara

Congress candidate Dr Prashant Padole defeated sitting BJP MP Sunil Mendhe to claim Bhandara-Gondia Lok Sabha seat. The symbol of Congress party ‘Panja’ has returned after 1998. Dr Padole’s win is also seen as the victory for MPCC President Nana Patole. The defeat of Mendhe is a setback for NCP stalwart Praful Patel and BJP’s Dr Parinay Fuke. According to final results declared late in the night, Padole emerged victorious with total vote count of 5,87,413 against the 5,50,033 votes of Mendhe.

Cong’s Wankhade stuns BJP’s Rana in Amravati

The victory of Congress candidate Balwant Wankhade came as a shocker for Navneet Rana of BJP camp. The party had high expectations from her. Congress Party secured victory in Amravati Lok Sabha Constituency after 28 years. Balwant Wankhade defeated Navneet Rana by the margin of 19,631 votes. He secured 5,26,271 while Navneet Rana got 5,06,540 votes.

Yavatmal-Washim goes to Shiv Sena (UBT)

Considered to be a prestigious constituency for Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, the Yavatmal-Washim Lok Sabha seat, however, went to MVA candidate Sanjay Deshmukh from Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena. Sanjay Uttamrao Deshmukh defeated Mahayuti candidate Rajshri Hemant Patil from Shiv Sena (Shinde). Deshmukh polled 5,94,807. Deshmukh defeated Patil by a margin of 94,473 votes at the end of 30th round of counting.

Mahayuti’s Jadhav wins from Buldhana

Prataprao Jadhav of Shiv Sena (Shinde) emerged victorious in Buldhana. Jadhav polled 3,49,867 votes and Rajashri Patil of Shiv Sena (UBT) received 3,28,388 votes. Independent candidate Ravikant Tupkar secured 2,49,963 votes and gave a strong fight but finished third. Jadhav thus won by a margin of 29,479 votes.

BJP’s Anup Dhotre wins from Akola

Bharatiya Janata Party contestant Anup Sanjay Dhotre emerged victorious defeating Congress candidate Dr Abhay Kashinath Patil by over 40,000 votes in Akola. Anup Dhotre, son of former MP Sanjay Dhotre, retained the party’s seat in Vidarbha. Anup Dhotre polled 4,53,866 votes whereas Dr Abhay Patil garnered 4,13,854 votes. Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi constant Adv Prakash Ambedkar polled 2,74,823 votes in the final tally. Anup Dhotre defeated Dr Abhay Patil by 40,415 votes.

BJP’s Ashok Nete misses hat-trick in Gadchiroli-Chimur LS constituency

Dr Namdeo Kirsan of Congress Party has won the election from Gadchiroli Chimur Lok Sabha constituency. BJP’s two-time MP Ashok Nete, could not make a hattrick this time and lost to the Congress candidate. Dr Kirsan polled 6,14,610 votes while Nete got 4,74,376 votes. Dr Kirsan won the election with a margin of 1,40,234 votes.
